Adam and his family were so much fun to shoot with, although I did have to work now and then to get the kids attention. The little ones always seemed to find something that would peek their curiosity, their gaze would just drift away while I was taking pictures. It’s understandable though, there are so many crazy things going on down in Balboa Park. From live music to street performers, it’s hard for me to compete with that kind stuff. I love how children are so interested in the little things, the stuff us bigger kids have forgotten. Whether it is a little red lady bug or a balloon, there is a simple magic in everything they come in contact with. I guess that is one of the reasons I love working with kids, they help me slow down and see how beautiful the world really is. How even the smallest insignificant thing can hold such wonder, a power all it’s own.

Some of my fondest memories are of the holidays as a child, the excitement and magic of each moment. I think that is one of the reasons I love shooting with kids, every little thing is new and amazing. Like waking up on Christmas morning at three am just to see what might be hidden under that pine tree. It is like the world is slowly churning towards the best days of the year, when imagination meets reality. Sort of like the first few times you go to Disneyland, each step takes you to a new beautiful exciting place that you would never have dreamed of. Easter has been one of my favorite holidays, although I think Christmas still holds supreme in my books. But I know very few little boys who don’t brighten at the thrill of the hunt, each shiny colorful egg filled with who knows what. Even opening the eggs after you find them is exciting, you never know what you’re going to get. I love how just being around kids can take me back, give me a little taste of what it was like to be awestruck by the simple things. I had a great day following them around as they grabbed up those eggs. The weather was beautiful, birds were singing, kids were laughing and dancing, what more could you want?

Don’t you wish you could have this much fun? lol He is such a character…

Jesse & Sage are an amazing couple, just from watching them you can see the love in their eyes and actions. I had the honor of capturing a few of the many beautiful moments that I’m sure they will share throughout their lives together. I half expected another normal San Diego wedding, but low and behold rain drops were falling on my head as I walked out the door. As if rainy days are not rare enough in SD, how about a rainy day on your wedding. Although I hear it is good luck for it to rain on your special day, at least that is what people kept saying throughout the day. Never could get a straight answer why, so me being mister curious I had to look it up. At first I thought it may be a reference to God and the hosts of heaven, the skies opening up and tears of joy pouring down. But as I read I found that many cultures believe rain to be a good omen of sorts, Hindu’s knew that adding water to a cords tied in a knot is more resilient, thus as you tie the “knot” a little water will make the bond that much stronger. Rain was also a symbol of fertility to agricultural societies, since rain restored and maintained the wellness of crops. Crops were peoples main source of stability and income so it was thought to guarentee a long happy marriage! There were also some parallels drawn between agricultural fertility and and human fertility, some say if it pours you better start expecting plenty of little ones in the future. Any way you look at it there seems to be a lot of good that comes from the rain, a sustaining force that we could not do without. It truly was a blessed day, I wish Jesse & Sage the best, may they have many years happiness together and possibly a big house
you never know???
